Tutorial 5 / 10

We will start with creating one composite ordination diagram, summarizing our data. Because there are four nominal variables in our analysis, representing jointly one factor with four levels, we must tell CanoDraw about their presence. The four variables code the type of agricultural land use and these nominal variables have a different optimal presentation in ordination diagrams than the (semi-)quantitative environmental variables

Select the Project > Nominal variables... > Environmental variables menu command and select the variables SF, BF, HF, and NM in the left-hand column. To move them to the right-hand column (named Nominal variables), you must click the Select>> button. The resulting state of this dialog box looks then as illustrated here:

Also, we might like to enhance readability of the ordination diagram with a key (legend), so before we create the diagram, we will use another menu command first. Select the Project > Settings... command and click on the Appearance page. The lower part of this page provides settings concerning the plot legends. Make sure that the Insert legend into created diagrams box is checked and also that the other settings here are identical with those illustrated in the following snapshot.

You can also observe that CanoDraw displays popup tooltip windows explaining in short the meaning of individual controls.
